Scope Junction: Harold reminisces

Introducing, for the folks at Scope Junction, Harold – the world’s grumpiest old-school oscilloscope. Here he is with his friend Ray D’io – from the sixties, man, who’s remarking about back-lit models in the paper (Page 3, I presume). Harold is reminiscing about the old days, when girls had curves (they had valves!).

152.Transformers

In the old days, of course, back in the days o’ 8-tracks ‘n’ grits ‘n when gas were ain’t but a buck a gallon, they just had good ol’ E-I transformers. There were a big ol’ iron ‘E’ shape, and a purdy liddle ‘I t’go with it.

Nowadays, they gots all these fancy designer-type Switch Mode and Toroidal transformer ‘n what-not with their “up-town improved efficiency” and hoopla. I mean, heck, one of ‘em even sounds like that cream Mabel puts for her ‘roids, y’know, for the troublesome spots down south…

Anyway, I guess there really is more to Transformers than meets the eye, er, just E-I.

Scope Junction: Coward Fuse

Recently I designed a cartoon for the folks over at ScopeJunction.com: this one is of a coward fuse. Murphy’s Law, I recall, had a clause something along the lines of:

‘A $600 TV tube will protect a 10 cent fuse by blowing first!’

Too true, too true.

Felixicio and Hangman

I really tried to not do any cartoons until March; a little self-imposed sabbatical of sorts. I lasted over six weeks, which is quite an achievement. Presenting therefore: “Hangman Style”; an original thought until I Googled it and found a similar cartoon. Groan. Well, it was original until… oh, never mind.

“Felixicio the Stoopid Cat” however returns no results. I don’t know what possessed me to draw the world’s most stupid cat in yellow marker and blue fountain pen; a cat that calls himself “Felixicio” as though it’s an exotic Italian sounding moniker. Perhaps Felixicio and “Brian the Peacock” will have their own comic strip one day.

At the very least, my daughter likes the look of Felixicio on a bright pink T-shirt.

Merry Christmas to everyone who’s dropped by the Ohmart blog etc this year – it’s been lovely seeing you!

I’ll be taking a short sabbatical and hope to be back sketching around March 2013, given that the world didn’t end on 21 December 2012. And here was me thinking I’d get out of having to do any more, or mowing the lawns, or paying the builder his final invoice.

Damn Mayans.

150. The PICAXE Inventor

Using micro-controllers can be a mixed bag. Some can be quite PICky and have languages that are hard to learn. On the other hand, some are more BASIC but powerful enough to control just about anything.
